Job description: The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring the proper standards are followed in the production of material in the fabrication shop according to the shop drawings and the American Welding Society. This position is deemed 'safety sensitive' due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee's co-workers, and/or the public at large. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspects all fabrication jobs to maintain the quality levels of work produced in accordance with applicable codes and standards and Prospect Steel QC procedures.
• Prepares daily inspection reports.
• Monitor records on all shop welders with their level of certification and monitor daily rod use.
• Perform inspection tasks necessary to complete dimension checks, welding checks, NDE, maintain records electronically and communicate results professionally.
• Assist in setting up, monitor and maintain welding procedures, bolting procedures and painting procedures required for projects.
• Provide feedback on questions related to qualifying and project requirements from shop employees.
• The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required.
• Travels to subcontracts to inspect jobs for proper standards when required. Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent with 5 years of steel fabrication experience OR associate degree from a college or trade school with three years of steel fabrication experience.
  • Previous fitting and welding experience is desirable. -Must have fitter level math skills. -
  • Must be able to read and understand complex geometry shop and erection drawings.
  • Must be able to pass an inspector test and complete VT training and test.
  • The ability to work with computer, tablet and iPad is desirable.
  • Must possess NDE processes MT- Level I and II, UT-Level I and II (ASNT TC 1A- Level-II) qualifications.
  • Must possess current AWS certified welding inspector. Physical Demands
    -Ability to lift 50 lbs. frequently and be able to climb 25 ft. -Must have the ability to bend, stoop, push and pull frequently. -Requires occasional travel with overnight stays. -Exposure to temperature fluctuations and loud work environment. Overtime and weekend work may be required. All the physical demands listed are essential functions.

This role involves working under extreme hot or cold conditions and requires the physical ability to stand for the entire shift, use hands for various tasks, ascend stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Team members must occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
