OverviewMachine Learning Engineer InternPNNL's Environmental and
Molecular Sciences Lab (EMSL) is seeking a machine learning
engineer intern to create data products that empower scientists
everywhere to unlock the potential of scientific data. As part of
the data architecture team, the candidate will use cutting-edge
software and machine learning technologies to make scientific data
free and accessible according to FAIR data principles. The
candidate will be enabling search and discovery using LLM.This
position is fully remote.ResponsibilitiesPNNL's Environmental and
Molecular Sciences Lab (EMSL) is seeking a machine learning
engineer intern to create data products that empower scientists
everywhere to unlock the potential of scientific data. As part of
the data architecture team, the candidate will use cutting-edge
software and machine learning technologies to make scientific data
free and accessible according to FAIR data principles. The
candidate will be enabling search and discovery using LLM. This
position is fully remote.
- Leverage state-of-the-art LLMs to build interactive AI
applications.
- Use LLMs and REST APIs to build RAG pipelines.
- Utilize cutting-edge techniques to build agentic systems.
- Leverage a wide range of technical skills to solve complex,
multi-domain challenges.
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand scope and
requirements for data products.
- Interface with many teams within EMSL to provide software
solutions that work across the entire
organization.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD
program at an accredited college.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building agentic LLM systems.
- Familiar with machine learning frameworks and NLP.
- Experience with scientific data.
- Experience creating data pipelines.
- Experience with bash scripting.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS or GCP or
Azure
- Students must be enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program in
Computer Science fields such as software engineering, data science,
artificial intelligence, or machine learning.
- 3 years of experience with Python
- 3 years of experience with SQL
- Experience building context-aware LLM-based applications.
- Experience with Linux
- Experience with gitHazardous Working Conditions/EnvironmentNot
